The Sewing Room in downtown Indianapolis operates entirely on a walk-in basis for everyday clothing alterations, men’s and women’s suits, casual wear, dresses, jeans, and uniforms. You can visit our shop anytime during regular business hours Tuesday through Saturday. 

Yes, we highly recommend scheduling a private appointment for wedding dresses and complex bridal gowns. Because formal bridal wear requires multiple detailed fittings and a strict timeline, we schedule these consultations on Mondays when our shop is otherwise closed to the public. Alteration prices and timelines depend entirely on the complexity and materials of the garment, so we cannot provide exact quotes over the phone. The original retail price of a piece of clothing does not determine the cost of altering it. Delicate materials, complex structural layers, or specialty details like beads, sequins, lace, and original edge preservation require specialized, time-intensive techniques. Yes, we can resize garments, but we must inspect the clothing item in person first. * Making a garment smaller is called "taking it in." This is almost always possible.

• ​Making a garment bigger is called "letting it out" or "sizing up." This is only possible if the manufacturer left extra fabric hidden inside the internal seams (known as seam allowance).

Bring your item into our downtown Indy shop, and we will examine the inside structure to determine exactly how much the clothing can safely be resized.

Our tailoring shop is located in the heart of downtown Indianapolis at 320 N Meridian Street, Suite 109. We are situated on the 1st floor inside the historic The Chamber of Commerce Building, just 2.5 blocks north of Monument Circle.

The Chamber of Commerce Building does not have free public parking, but there are several convenient paid indoor and street parking options right around our block:

• ​Closest Indoor Parking Garage: The Central Park Garage (operated by REI) is located on our exact block with an entrance at 301 N. Illinois Street. While we are not affiliated with this garage, it is the closest covered parking option to our storefront.

• ​Metered Street Parking: The city provides paid street parking all around and near our building. We highly recommend downloading and using the ParkMobile app on your mobile device to quickly find, track, and pay for your street parking spot.

• ​Please note: Street parking availability is subject to change periodically due to large downtown sports games, concerts, and conventions.

No, we do not provide standalone measurement services for outside clothing orders. Because different clothing brands and manufacturing companies vary wildly in how they process size charts, using one tailor's measurements for another brand's ordering system can cause major sizing errors. To guarantee a perfect fit, we prefer to alter the physical garment once you have it in hand.
